Digital Totem Illustration Ancestral by Stephanie Littlebird
I have chosen to represent specific elements of my own ancestry and icons of PNW Indigenous traditions like the #wapato plant and tattoos. The birds and egg represent multiple generations and different stages of life. What is born from the egg is infinite potential for spiritual growth and transformation/evolution in all forms.
Ancestry takes the form of physical people but also comes to life through cultural practice and intergenerational memory. In honor of my Clatsop Chinuk ancestor Kilakota Coboway, her name means “singing bird” and I am her great great granddaughter.
